Caledonian Challenge

On Saturday 14 June 2008, Toby Gibson, litigation partner at Gibson & Co successfully completed the Caledonian Challenge. This is a gruelling 54 mile course, over the West Highland Way in the Scottish highlands, covering the section from Fort William down to Loch Lomond. Competitors climb the equivalent of Ben Nevis twice.

The “Challenge” is to complete the course within 24 hours. The team ran much of it, completing the course in an amazing time of 13 hours and 49 minutes. They finished as the second fastest team (out of 302 teams), beaten only by the Black Watch army team, so no shame there surely? The four finished together, coming in at 18 –21 places, out of a starting line up of 1,305.

Toby was a member of a team of 4 (called Infamous Grouse) with Luke Sanders, a director of LTS Refurbishment Limited, James Downie of Chilton Investment Company and James Deal of Cazenoves.

The support team consisted of wife and fellow litigation partner at Gibson & Co, Jane Gibson together with Rosalind Scott Bell, a barrister at Trinity Chambers in Newcastle. Both had been in an earlier 2006 Caledonian Challenge team with Toby, but had obviously held him back, since it took over 21 hours to complete the course in 2006!
