As a firm based in the north east, which has been established for over 300 years, Gibson & Co. takes its role in the community seriously. Over the past year staff have been involved in various roles in the community, including individual positions of responsibility, sponsorships and fundraising activities.
Community Involvement
Staff are encouraged to take an active role in the community. Harry Chrisp is a founding member of the Annual Northern Farming Conference.
Michael Reed chairs the Civil Litigation Committee for the Newcastle Law Society, and Michael Macgregor is a member of the Standing Committee of the Society, as well as being a former President (Tony and Derwent Gibson have also been President). Chris Sheppard sits on the Standing Committee for the Society and recently organised the Society’s first sporting event, a netball tournament.
Chris also organised a Will writing event for a Durham based Dementia Care Charity, and participated in a Will Aid Charity event in 2016 which raised a total of £1,640.
As well as individual involvement, the firm sponsors a variety of local groups and events, such as the Tynedale point to point, a day at York Races in aid of cystic fibrosis, the Belsay Horse Trials and the Annual Northern Farming Conference.
Social Involvement
Fee earners regularly attend charity and social networking events such as the annual Newcastle Law Society Dinner.
In December 2016, the Newcastle office raised money for Save the Children by holding a Christmas jumper day, whilst the Hexham office donated presents to Mission Christmas for those who may go without presents on Christmas morning.
In March 2017 both offices collectively raised money for Comic Relief by taking part in a “guess what the Partner is thinking” activity.
