Limited liability companies have “directors” not partners. However, it is common for senior members of law firms to refer to themselves as “partners”, and for that reason this wording has been retained for our website, correspondence, and other marketing material. The word “partner” therefore refers to a shareholder or director of the firm, and should not be taken to indicate that the directors of Gibson & Co. Solicitors Ltd are carrying on business in partnership for the purposes of the Partnership Act 1890. Any business conducted with the firm is with Gibson & Co. Solicitors Ltd only and not any one person individually.

Complaints
We want to provide the highest quality service to our clients. If you have been dissatisfied with any aspect of the service provided, we ask that in the first instance, you contact the partner or fee earner responsible for your matter. If you are still dissatisfied, a copy of our complaints policy is here. If for any reason we are unable to resolve a problem between us and a client, our client may utilise the complaints and redress scheme operated by the Legal Ombudsman. There are time limits for making complaints to the Legal Ombudsman; these are set out in our complaints policy but for further details, visit their website.
Investment Advice
The provision of our legal services may relate to investments (including insurance contracts). We are not authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority or the Prudential Regulation Authority of England. However, we are included on the register maintained by the Financial Conduct Authority so that we can carry on insurance mediation activity, which is broadly the advising on, selling and administration of insurance contracts. This part of our business, including arrangements for complaints or redress if something goes wrong, is regulated by the SRA. The Register can be accessed via the Financial Conduct Authority website.
Interest Policy
It is our policy to account to our clients for interest on a fair and reasonable basis. In particular:
Client monies will be deposited in a general client account (in which amounts for different clients are pooled) unless otherwise instructed (see below).
Client monies will be held in an instant access account in order to facilitate transactions unless otherwise instructed. Interest will normally be calculated at a rate equivalent to that available to Gibson & Co. at the time the client monies are held had the client monies been deposited in a separate instant access account.
Pursuant to rule 7 of the rules laid down by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, we will pay gross interest on amounts over £30 only, usually when funds held on your behalf are paid out of our client account.
It is unlikely that a client will receive as much interest as might have been obtained had the funds been invested by the client itself.
Instructions to place client money on a term deposit
If specific instructions are received from a client to place client monies on a term deposit, a separate designated account will be created. In respect of any client monies held in a separate designated account, all interest earned on that deposit will be paid to the client in full.
