Ashley Shickle (née Padgett) graduated from Northumbria University with a first-class degree in Law and qualified as a solicitor in 2013. She obtained her Higher Rights of Audience qualification in January 2023 (with flying colours) and is a Solicitor Advocate.
In her eleven years at Gibson & Co. Ashley has been involved in a range of banking and contractual disputes. She has excellent experience of resolving all manner of disputes ranging from consumer and contract issues to high value international arbitration proceedings.
Ashley has considerable advocacy experience in a range of civil disputes including possession claims and rent actions. She has conducted a range of complex contentious matters often involving an international element. Highlights include:
- Acting for the Claimants in a successful application for an interim non-disclosure order to restrain the disclosure of a private conversation overhead during business negotiations: Clearcourse Partnership and others v Jethwa [2022] EWHC 1199 (QB).
- Acting for ING Bank N.V following the collapse of the O.W. Bunker Group (OWB) in Denmark, which prior to its insolvency was the world’s largest supplier of marine fuel. ING acted as agent for a syndicate of lenders to OWB and has asserted a right to recover (as assignee) the debts owed to OWB by way of LMAA arbitration proceedings.
- Acting for the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the successful High Court trial of a multi-million pound international arbitration dispute. The Government successfully resisted enforcement of an award in the UK.
- Successfully acting for a company in its appeal to the Court of Appeal to determine whether and to what extent it was entitled to additional performance fees.
- Acting in claims seeking compensation under the Water Industry Act 1991 in the Upper Tribunal.
- Acting in a number of actions involving breach of director’s duties and/or fiduciary duties.
Ashley also has experience of successfully restoring companies to the Register of Companies.
Ashley was named as a “Leading Associate” by Legal 500 in its 2025 edition.
Ashley has also been named as a “rising star” by Legal 500 for three consecutive years (2022, 2023 and 2024 editions) and is quoted as “provid[ing] a high standard of service…giv[ing] clients sound, practical advice…”. She has “significant advocacy experience”, “delivers an excellent service to clients” and “excels at associate level”.
Away from work Ashley enjoys travelling and spending time with her family.
