Claire graduated from Northumbria University in 2006 with first class honours in law. She won a prestigious award for her outstanding work in Intellectual Property.
Claire deals with a variety of cases for local, national and international clients concerning such issues as commercial contracts, professional negligence, construction and building disputes, disputes over the ownership of and rights over property, company and banking disputes, partnership disputes, contentious probate matters and landlord and tenant issues (both residential and commercial).
Since joining Gibson & Co. her experience has included acting in the following noteworthy matters:
- For an international derivatives trader in a complex and high value dispute about the alleged mis-valuation of his option book by the bank;
- For an international bank in defending an action brought by a Portuguese company over its investment portfolio including investments in Asset Backed Securities;
- For a company based in Hong Kong in an action over the Commercial Agents Regulations which involved difficult arguments over jurisdiction;
- For a Danish national in relation to an investment dispute with a UK based company which involved challenging both limitation and jurisdiction;
- On a widely reported (and now leading) proprietary estoppel dispute for a local farmer who sought an order declaring he could inherit the family farm following the death of his mother http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Ch/2018/1338.html;
- For a group of veterinary partners in a high value partnership dispute against their corporate partner;
- For the Trustees of a large Will Trust dealing with complex trust and property matters;
- For an online bank recovering debts from a large number of customers;
- On several trade mark infringement disputes for local companies and individuals against companies based in the United States; and
- On several shareholder unfair prejudice actions.
Claire has also acted for a Premier League football club advising on commercial agreements, sponsorship deals, property and general company matters.
Away from work, Claire lives in Northumberland. She enjoys travelling and spending time with her family.
